CITIZENS COMPASS – A Public Affairs Analyst, Mr. Alexander Orji, has advised the Federal Government(FG) to recover funds from political looters and reduce external borrowing.
Orji gave the advice in an interview with the Citizens Compass on Sunday, in Lagos.
According to him, FG could make a significant impact by directing its efforts towards recovery of funds that have been looted from the Nation’s treasury by corrupt politicians and officials instead of relying on external loans.
“Recovered funds will reduce over reliance on loans from international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
“Instead of relying on external loans, FG should make effort to recover funds looted from the National treasury by corrupt politicians and officials.
“By focusing on recovering stolen funds, FG could not only address the issue of corruption but also provide much-needed resources for development projects without increasing the country’s debt.
“Furthermore, recovering stolen funds aligns with President Tinubu’s reputation as a champion of anti-corruption and good governance,” he said.
He told Citizencompass that Nigeria has a long history of corruption and embezzlement of public funds, leading to massive losses that have contributed to the country’s economic challenges.
The expert commended the president for prioritising his anti-corruption agenda and demonstration of his commitment to holding corrupt individuals accountable and ensuring that public resources are used for the benefit of all Nigerians.
He said that the approach would not only address the immediate financial needs of the country but also sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated at any level of government.
