Akarigbo urges alumni to support govt on school development

CITIZENS COMPASS– The traditional ruler of Remo in Ogun State, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi(The Akarigbo of Remo land) on Sunday, urged old students associations to support government efforts on infrastructural development in public secondary schools.

Akarigbo gave the advice when a delegation of Remo Divisional High School Old Students’ Association (RDHS-OSA) paid a courtesy visit in his palace in Ogun State.

The Citizens Compass reports that the association visit was part of the week-long activities lined up for the commemoration of the school’s 60th Anniversary celebration.

The monarch emphasised the importance of collective action from old students, communities, and other stakeholders to complement government initiatives in the education sector.

Akarigbo, said that the support made by the association to the school has positively impacted on the standards of the school, thus elevating its status among public schools in Remo land and Ogun State in particular.

“There is something you do that resonates with me.

“Old students’ associations are the only group of people who contribute to the development of schools without asking for anything in return.

“Parents and teachers expect something in return, old students give back to their alma mater simply out of the need to give back,” he said.

The traditional ruler lauded the exemplary innovative development initiatives embarked upon by RDHS-OSA adding that it was a force to reckon with among other associations across Remo and Ogun State in general.

The monarch commended the body for sponsoring the modernisation of the school gate which has further enhanced the entire aesthetic look of the school.

Earlier, in his remarks, Mr Abiodun Adesanya, President, RDHS-OSA commended members for their contributions and assured the school management of their continuous support in ensuring the school becomes best among equals.

Adesanya told the monarch that the association would be inaugurating a number of projects to commemorate her 60th Founder’s Day Anniversary event.

He highlighted some of the line-up of activities for the commemoration of the school’s 60th celebration to includes; Guided tour and projects commissioning, educational symposium, education and career Fair/Counseling

Others are Health awareness lecture, free health checks, feeding of 1,500 students, Social entertainment for current students, pageant competition, poetry competition and general award to students among other activities.

Citizencompass reports that dignitaries at the event includes; Dr Ronke Soyobo, Special Adviser on Education to Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, also Chairman, 60th Anniversary Planning Committee.

Also in attendance were; Mr Mofopefoluwa Joseph, BOT member, past Presidents-General of the body, members from UK, USA and other foreign delegates were also among the delegates.
