AIG Adegoke cautions Nigerians against undermining Police efforts 

CITIZENS COMPASS– The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Fayoade Adegoke, has urged the public not to undermine the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force.

Speaking as one of the panelists at the 2024 National Security Conference organised by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), AIG Adegoke emphasised the dedication and hard work of police officers across the country. The conference, held in Lagos, was themed: “Connecting the Dots Between Identity Tracking and National Security.”

AIG Adegoke stressed that effective collaboration between security agencies is crucial for enhancing officers’ performances, particularly in identity tracking and national security efforts. “If the dots are effectively connected, it would significantly improve the performance of our officers,” he noted.

He further explained that while collaboration between agencies, including the Navy, Civil Defense, Air Force, and Army, is already in place, there is room for improvement. “We work together, especially when facing national challenges. Our agencies meet regularly to strategize on problem-solving. We are continuously connecting, but when the gaps in data collection are filled, it will greatly enhance our ability to interpret cases and apprehend criminals more efficiently,” Adegoke said.

Addressing misconceptions about police efficiency, AIG Adegoke dispelled the common belief that says “If police wan work, dem go work”. He emphasized that the Nigerian Police Force works around the clock to ensure the safety of citizens. “We don’t just act when a personality is involved; we work 24/7. Our officers are dedicated, and when issues arise, we tackle them head-on and ensure thorough investigations are conducted,” he stated.

AIG Adegoke, who recently served as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, concluded by praising the commitment and professionalism of police officers, reaffirming the force’s dedication to maintaining law and order across the nation.

The National Security Conference provided an opportunity for key security stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving Nigeria’s security infrastructure, with a focus on integrating identity tracking systems to bolster national security.
