CITIZENS COMPASS – Mr Ope Fatinikun, Assistant Comptroller of Corrections (ACG) (NCoS) Zone A, yesterday, warned erring officers against aiding and abetting usage of phones by inmates.

Fatinikun, who is in charge of Lagos and Ogun State gave the warning during an unscheduled visit to Custodial centres in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Citizen Compass reports that the ACG who recently resumed duty visited the old Medium Security prison at Ibara and the new Medium Security prison at Oba in Abeokuta.

The visit was part of the ACG’s supervisory strategies to determine the level of alertness, indiscipline and indecent dressing among officers of NCoS.

“It is alleged that some inmates disseminate unverified video recordings inside the prison to dent the service.

“Any officer caught engaging in trafficking for inmates will be sanctioned and severely dealt with,” he said

The ACG advised the inmates to behave well and not be involved in any form of violence or breaking the jail and charged officers to be diligent and maintain professionalism.

“The Nigeria Correctional Service, as you know, has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.

“NCoS manages both custodial and non custodial centres, so officers must be deligent and committed to the service.

“Any act of indiscipline, disloyalty to the Service, and insubordination will be decisively dealt with,” he said.

The ACG inspected all the departments in both correctional centres and subsequently directed that inmates must be given adequate attention on going to court as at when due.

The ACG commended Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior for prompt payment of salaries and promotion arrears of Correctional Service officer
