CITIZENS COMPASS– A man who faked being one of the leaders of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State, Alhaji Musa Araokanmi, is currently in Police net for allegedly defrauding a woman of N1.4m.
The alleged fraud occurred in June 2022 during a transaction with one Halimot Olorunlomeru who deposited the said amount to purchase a vehicle at auction prices.
The suspect was said to have introduced himself to the victim as a PCRC member in-charge of Police auction sales, and asked the victim to deposit the sum of N1.4 million with him to get a very good car and motorcycles from the Police auction sales.
Having deposited the money, the victim later realised that it was a scam.
Two years later, the suspect was sighted in Ago-Iwoye, and this was reported at Ago-Iwoye Police Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the development in a statement gave details thus, “On the strength of the complaint, the DPO Ago Iwoye Division, SP Noah Adekanye
, detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has never been a member of PCRC anywhere in Ogun State as he claimed. He has also confessed to the commission of the crime.
“The state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed an in-depth investigation into the suspect’s past activities, with a view to arraigning him in court as soon as possible.”
