Two die, others injured at birthday party as drunk Policeman opens fire on guests
A BIRTHDAY ceremony in Egbeda area of Lagos has has reportedly turned sour when a drunk Policeman reportedly misfired killing two guests and injuring others.
The event was held on Sunday during the birthday celebration of one Ifeanyi popularlly known as Asiwaju of Computer Village at La Silva Bar, Gowon Estate, Egbeda in Alimosho before the incident occured at about 9pm.
According to eye witnesses’ account, the Policeman which was said to be on illegal duty was offering gun salutes to the celebrant, a businessman when the tragedy occured.
The policeman, who has since gone into hiding was said to have been invited by the celebrant unfortunately the event went sour.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the the celebrant was on the dancing floor while being sprayed by some guests when suddenly there were gunshots.
He said things took a different turn as the event was deserted.
“Same policeman who was to provide security for at the occasion was the one that shot and killed those he was supposed to protect.
“The drink Policeman wanted to shoot into the air, then accidentally shot at them.”
At press time, the whereabouts of the Policeman could not be ascertained but
it was learnt that Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for both him and the celebrant who also has reportedly gone into hiding.
It was learnt that the Commissioner of Police (CP) Abiodun Alabi has ordered the immediate arrests of the suspects for disciplinary action and prosecution to commence respectively.
The police boss, it was gathered, was particularly interested in knowing how the operative who was said to be off duty, got the rifle he used at the event.
It was learnt that two of the guests were arrested by policemen attached to Gowon Estate Division after the bar’s owner, Sylvanus Chukwukezie made a complaint.
Contacted, Spokesperson of the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said details of the incidents were still sketchy but assured that the Command would not rest on its oars until everyone culpable is brought to justice.
He said: “I can confirm there was shooting at the bar on Sunday night and two persons were killed.
We are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. I can assure you that those responsible will not go free. They will face the music.
“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi has zero tolerance for such behaviours and has already given marching orders to the DPO to fish out the culprits.”
