Tanker explosion razes petrol station, three-storey building in Mushin
PALPABLE tension was on Wednesday, witnessed in the Idi-Oro axis of Mushin, Lagos State, following a tanker explosion that burnt a petrol station in the area.
The fire as gathered, degenerated and extended to a three-storey building along the Agege Motor Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was triggered around 1 pm, when a PMS tanker trying to discharge its contents exploded at the Mobil petrol station located at 69 Agege Motor Road.
The fire then spread to a three-storey residential building situated at 71 Agege Motor Road, just opposite the Alakara Police Station, Lagos.
Although no life was lost, properties worth billions of Naira were destroyed by the inferno, the commotion caused panic and gridlock for residents and motorists.
Lagos state Safety Commission has taken over the sealing up of the station.
Also, men of the state fire service, officials of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and several other operatives from various other agencies, having contained the fire, cordoned off the area to forestall further damage.
Speaking of the incident, Adeseye Margaret, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, advised commuters to find alternative routes away from the scene of the disaster.
“Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes away from the Idi Oro Corridor of Agege Motor Road, Mushin,” Mrs Adeseye advised while raising an update on the accident.
The Fire Service said they are yet to confirm the cause of the fire but promised to furnish the public with the details as soon as the cause is ascertained.
