University suspends final year student over clash with union president

CITIZENS COMPASS– The management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, has suspended one of its final year student, Kabiru Toheeb Omotoyosi, following a clash with the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President.

The 500-level student of Animal Production in the Faculty of Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, was issued a suspension letter dated April 10, 2025.

He was suspended for two semesters.

The student was said to have made a defamatory statement against the SUG President, Mr. Oluwaseun Adeyemi Ogunmakinju, popularly known as Enzaim, and another student identified as Filomenal Patience Michael.

According to reports, Omotoyosi’s comments—which were posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter)—sparked controversy within the student community. He had used the platform to call on the Ogun State Government and concerned Nigerians to intervene in what he described as “injustice” over his suspension.

The university has not released an official statement detailing the specific content of the alleged defamatory publication.

In his post, Omotoyosi pleaded for solidarity, urging stakeholders to amplify his voice and challenge what he perceives as a misuse of power within the student union.

The suspension has generated reactions by social media users.

Efforts to reach the university’s management and the SUG President for comments were unsuccessful.
