Ikorodu LG, others conduct free medical outreach

CITIZENS COMPASS– The Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State in conjunction with Lagos State Health District 2, Lagos State Health Management Agency(LASHMA) and Lagos State Primary Health Care Board(LASPHCB) flagged off three days free eye screening in Ikorodu.

Speaking at the inauguration, the council Chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said the initiative, a directive from the Federal Government, was made possible through collaboration between the primary health care board and an NGO, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

The Citizen Compass reports that the three days event (JIGI BOLA) also conducted medical check-ups on High Blood Pressure and diabetes while reading glasses were given to those who needed it for free.

Adesina emphasised that poor vision, if not detected and managed early, can diminish the quality of life adding that many of our elderly citizens suffered silently due to lack of access to affordable eye care.

“We are proud to partner with the LASPHCB, Health District II, and CHAI in advancing this noble cause right here in Ikorodu.

“This year’s edition is again offering free eye screening. Medical test exercise is a vital step towards achieving universal health coverage for our people,” he said.

Adesina appreciated President Bola Tinubu (GCFR) ensuring that dividends of democracy cut across grassroots and appealed to residents to come out enmas and vote for All Progressive Congress (APC) party during the forthcoming Lagos council poll.

Earlier, Dr Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary(PS), Lagos Health District II, represented by Mr Adeola Adeninyi, assistant to Director, pharmaceutical service appealed to residents on regular medical check-up on virtually every area of concerns on health.

In her remarks, Dr Ramat Odesesan, Medical Officer of Health(MOH) LASPHCB said that clear vision is vital for a good quality of life, productivity, and overall well-being.

Odesesan said the JIGI BOLA 2.0 initiative aims to improve beneficiaries’ quality of life by enhancing their ability to read, work, and perform daily activities without visual difficulties.

“Regular eye screenings are crucial for detecting defects early, correcting issues, and referring patients to further care when needed.

“For those who benefited from the eyeglasses, proper use is required to significantly improve the quality of life.

It’s also essential to regularly check the blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as hypertension and diabetes are silent killers, and many people are asymptomatic,” she said.

Also, Kayode Olomo, Baale Ojogbe, Mr Lookman Shonibare, Secretary, Lagos State Community Development Committee(CDC) and other beneficiaries express gratitude to the president and the chairman for their kind gesture over their vision.
