CITIZENS COMPASS– Many people were injured on Sunday when a police inspector allegedly opened fire on some civilians in Calabar, Cross River State.
An unconfirmed report said some fatalities were recorded in the process when the incident occurred at the Watt Market area. Reasons for the shooting could not be ascertained but Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the inspector stepped out of a nearby police station and opened fire on people.
A viral video captured the scene with some victims lying helpless.
A social media user, wrote “S@D‼️ Happen in Calabar this Sunday morning, an inspector of police ran m@d, open fire openly K!ll$ marketers and some injured.”
The incident was confirmed by the Cross River State Police Command while reacting to the video although further details were not provided.
“The matter has been handled this morning and the inspector is in detention. A press release will be released in a short while,” the police stated.
