CITIZENS COMPASS – A truck on Thursday, crashed into a residential building in Benue State killing nine family members who were asleep as at that time.
The tragedy occurred in Okete, Ohimini Local Government Area of the state.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 5 a. m when the family was asleep.
It was gathered that the truck suffered a brake failure leading to the collision with the house situated along the roadside.
According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, the unusual noise from the accident scene awoke some neighbours of the family members who alerted emergency responders about the tragedy.
Confirming the accident, spokesperson, Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, said, “The truck rammed into a residential building, killing nine members of the family. The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.”
She added that the police had commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and assured the public that further details would be provided in due course.
