CITIZENS COMPASS – Amid controversy, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday, presented the staff of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Abimbola Akeem Owoade.
This legitimises the appointment of the monarch.
The new Alaafin came on board three years after the former Alaafin, Lamidi Adeyemi III joined his ancestors.
Following the presentation of the staff of office, the new Alaafin is set to commence a 21-day traditional rites as expected of him.
The state governor, Seyi Makinde, announced Owoade as the new monarch of the ancient Yoruba community on Friday and presented him with the staff of office on Monday.
The ceremony had the kingmakers, otherwise known as Oyomesi, top government functionaries, and eminent personalities from the state in attendance.
