Broadcaster hospitalised over Ibadan tragedy

CITIZENS COMPASS –The Chairman of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been hospitalized following the death of many children at a recent funfair in the State.

The station was said to be a promoter of the funfair although this had been debunked by the broadcaster.

Agidigbo FM is the rave of the moment in Ibadan.

The funfair, held in Ibadan, Oyo State, turned into a disaster, claiming the lives of over 30 children with many others injured.

According to a close source who pleaded anonymity, Hamzat became unconscious on Wednesday, due to the overwhelming shock from the tragedy. He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan.

“The chairman of Agidigbo FM is unconscious and has been admitted to a hospital. He was unable to cope with the shock of the tragic event and passed out,” the source explained.

The devastating incident has left the community in mourning, with families grappling with the loss of loved ones during what was meant to be a festive gathering. The tragedy has also sparked widespread reactions, including condolences from notable figures and a swift response from the Oyo State government.

Efforts to clarify the station’s role in the event continue, as Agidigbo FM has denied organizing the funfair, despite promoting what was ordinarily seen as a good gesture in the yuletide season.

So far, some of the organisers of the funfair including the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, have been arrested and detained over the tragedy.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has expressed condolences over the incident.
