Yoruba Indigenes Foundation endorses Tax Reform Bill
CITIZENS COMPASS – The President of a leading Pan Yoruba group, Yoruba Indigenes Foundation (YIF), Dr Olumide Aderibole, on Thursday, disclosed his strong support for the proposed Tax Reform Bill by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
In a statement, signed by Mr Sanjo Olawuyi, the Director of Communications and Strategies of the Group. Dr Aderibole said, the reform of the Tax Reform Bill
was long overdue.
He said it is obvious that, the current tax law of Nigeria is obsolete and lacks the substance to cope with her current economic realities.
Likewise, he enumerated the array of benefits that the Nigerian citizens, governments and the economy will derive from the proposed reform.
The benefits are: broadening of the Tax Base of the nation, transparency in the national tax administrative mechanism, elimination of tax evasions, acquisition of sustainable drivers for Nigeria prosperity and a remarkable growth in the total revenue generation capacity of Nigeria.
“If the bill finally succeeds in scaling through all the legislative processes and is adequately implemented, in no distant time, Nigeria Economy will start a re-fixing process and there will be shared prosperity in the country. “Moreso, governments across the three levels of governance in Nigeria, will be in possession of large sum of funds, for massive infrastructural developments.”
He cautioned all the stakeholders of the bill not to view, deliberate nor consider the bill on political or tribal sentiments because, the draft form of the bill is aptly composed, masses friendly and public spirited.
