Deputy gov, 100 others escape death as fire guts aircraft 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS – Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur and over 100 other passengers have escaped death when a Max Air aircraft was gutted by fire.

The incident occurred yesterday when the Abuja bound aircraft made an emergency landing at Muhammadu Buhari International Airport Maiduguri, Brno State.

It was learnt that the fire erupted when the engine of the aircraft damaged following a suspected bird strike.

The Deputy Governor alongside other passengers were said to have landed safely after they were all transloaded into another aircraft.

It was gathered that the incident occurred 10 minutes after the plane took off from the airport.

An airline official, who pleaded anonymity said another plane was deployed from Lagos to convey the passengers to Abuja.

“About 10 minutes after the take off, the Max Air Aircraft hit a bird in the sky, which led to one of the engines to be severely damaged. Engineers were deployed from Kano, now working on the aircraft,” he said.

Contacted, the Manager of Max Air in Maiduguri, Mr Musa Bawuro, said he was aware of the incident, but could not comment until he got details of what actually transpired.
