Obasanjo praises Adeleke’s efforts in giving face-lift to state capital, Osogbo
… visits 94 year-old philanthropist, 'Obelawo'
CITIZENS COMPASS –Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has praised the efforts of Osun State governor, Ademola Jackson Adeleke in giving a befitting transformation to Osogbo, the state capital.
The development came, even as the former President paid a visit to a popular industrialist and philanthropist nonagenarian, 94 years old, Chief Yusuf Amuda Lawal at his home in Osogbo on Wednesday.
A statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, hinted that Obasanjo was in the state to inaugurate the 2.7km Garage junction-Okefia-Lameco road on Tuesday.
According to Obasanjo, the state capital deserved more than it was because of its status in the history of the entire Yoruba race both at home and in Diaspora.
“What we are seeing from the governor in Osogbo, Ife, Ede, Ilesa, Ikire and others are not for you people alone, but, the entire Yoruba race globally.
“Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba race is in Osun State, so the development of Osun is in the interest of the entire Yoruba race. Ignore what your predecessors have failed to do. Focus on moving Osun to greater height and you will be doing good for the Yoruba people globally”.
“I decided to be here against all odds because of the successes Governor Adeleke achieved within two years. The governor have disappointed critics, he has shown that he is not only a good dancer, but also a good performer”.
The elated governor had earlier disclosed that his administration is committed to delivering on his agenda to reviving the state economy through infrastructure development.
The well attended ceremony that witnessed temporary closure of commercial activities in the area, saw the presence of some members of the National Assembly in the 8th senate that the governor was among and top traditional rulers saw historical ceremony.
Obasanjo early Wednesday, visited the nonagenarian and philanthropist leader commonly known as Obelawo at his Obelawo area of Osogbo. The renowned industrialist, who was 94 years old earlier in the year was met full of life in his country home.
The former President prayed fervently for longevity and good health in the presence of some of his children and close associate, Chief Oyewole Fasawe as he departed the State at and bout 7.30a.m.
