Sanwo-Olu suspends Special Assistant over #EndSARS related posts
CITIZENS COMPASS – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi. Ajetunmobi was suspended over a controversial statement on his X Handle formerly known as Twitter, about the 2020 #EndSARS protests particularly as touching the arson at TV Continental (TVC).
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, announced the suspension on Tuesday explaining that the decision was due to Ajetunmobi’s “misrepresentation of facts” in the now deleted post dated November 23, 2024 where Ajetunmobi claimed that individuals who set fire to a media outlet during the #EndSARS protests had been “hunted down and executed.”
The Special Assistant who posted on his X Handle, @Riddwane, said, “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: the majority of them have been hunted down and executed.”
He further claimed, “One of them, a young boy trading in cooking gas around Ketu, was found with an AK-47 at the site. Even his neighbours were shocked. But the full gist is better saved for later.”
When questioned about the post, Wale Ajetunmobi defended his statement, saying, “Lol… you want to create a narrative in your head. What is extrajudicial killing here? Some of the people were chased by soldiers and an exchange of fire occurred. Then arsonists were overpowered and killed in the process. Others ran away. Is that an extrajudicial killing to you?”
In response to the controversy, Akosile issued a statement on behalf of Governor Sanwo-Olu. He clarified the administration’s position, saying, “The Governor wishes to state categorically that his administration frowns at any form of extra-judicial punishment and will not be a part of any such action. That is not who we are. That is not our way.”
