CITIZENS COMPASS – Residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku in the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, will sigh a relief as as the state governor, Babatunde Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the construction of the Second phase of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Road in the area.
This is just as the leadership of the LCDA, led by the council chairman, Olusesan Daini popularly known as Builder Sesan Daini has visited the construction site over the weekend.
This second phase of the Obafemi Awolowo-Baiyeku Road project which spans from Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Estate in Ilado to Baiyeku town, is facilitated by the Lagos State Government, as part of its administration’s commitment to improving transportation and promoting socio-economic growth across the state.
The inspection team visited the contractor’s yard and construction site along Baiyeku Road to assess the preparedness of the work to be executed by a construction company called Samco City Works.
The project encompasses advanced road construction techniques, drainage systems, and modern designs to ensure durability and seamless connectivity for residents and commuters.
The Chairman expressed the council’s profound gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing this crucial infrastructure, which will not only ease mobility but also catalyze economic development in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and its environs.
Daini, also appreciated the traditional rulers, community leaders, and political stakeholders for their support and advocacy, which have made this project a reality. ‘The commitment and support of our traditional institutions and political leaders as well as other community members to the progress of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA have been instrumental.’ Daini added.
The Obafemi Awolowo-Baiyeku Road project is a testament to the synergy between the Lagos State Government and the grassroots governance in fostering sustainable development. Once completed, the road will significantly improve transportation, boost commerce, and enhance the quality of life for residents across the area.
The council urges the community to support and cooperate with the contractors and bear any temporary inconveniences that may arise during the construction period.
The Igbogbo-Bayeku Road is a major artery that connects two densely populated communities in the area has been in a deplorable condition for many years though the first phase of the road construction was awarded to the Lagos State Public Works in July 2022 unfortunately, the supposedly two-year project is still crawling as transporters in the area have jacked up fares owing to the deplorable road condition.
Respite however came the way of residents as the state governor has awarded the second phase of the road.
On Sunday, stakeholders urged the government to disallow the second phase of the project from going the way of the first phase.
