Police re-arrest ex-PDP candidate, Adebutu over local government election
CITIZENS COMPASS – The Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, re-arrested Ladi Adebutu, the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over issues bothering on last Saturday’s election in the State.
Sources said the arrest was in connection with the disturbances that occurred during the local government elections in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area.
Adebutu’s arrest followed his recent release from the Department of State Services (DSS), where he had been interrogated on similar allegations.
As of the latest updates, he remained in police custody.
He was accused of allegedly recruiting about 40 unauthorised police officers from Lagos and coordinating PDP thugs to disrupt the local government election.
Earlier, the Ogun State Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kayode Adebayo, in a statement issued on Monday confirmed the arrest of Adebutu by the Department of State Service (DSS).
The statement said Adebutu was reportedly invited for questioning over alleged disturbances during the local government elections held on November 16, 2024.
“This is to inform the members of our great party, The Peoples Democratic Party that the leader of the party has truly been detained by the DSS for charges yet unknown,” Adebayo said.
“However, our principal has called for calm and directed that all members of the party, supporters and well-wishers should be rest assured that this time shall pass, it is one of the prices for our democracy.
“Several efforts have been made to secure his bail as at 10p.m on Monday, 18th November 2024 either on personal recognition or by a surety but none has yielded any result so far; his lawyers have been informed and they will take it up by tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
