CITIZENS COMPASS – Mr. Wasiu Adesina, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, has pledged to collaborate with the British Council, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption program to protect child rights.

He made the promise at the inauguration of a 20-man committee on child rights implementation at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos on Monday.

The Chairman emphasised that the partnership aimed to prevent child abuse and ensure the implementation of child rights.

“We are partnering with the British Council and other NGOs to protect child rights and prevent abuse. We have set up a committee to implement child rights and ensure children are not abused.

“As a local government, we will provide necessary support and facilities for the committee to work effectively.”

Mrs Bukola Owokodu, Child Protection Network coordinator for Ikorodu LGA, urged stakeholders to take ownership of the initiative and work together with child protection networks to prevent child rights abuse in the area.

She added that measures have been put in place to facilitate anonymous reporting of child abuse cases.

Princess Bukola Isikalu, Iyaloja General of Ikorodu and a committee member, expressed gratitude to the council boss for his support.
