Dispatch rider seriously injured as bus collides with vehicle

CITIZENS COMPASS – A dispatch rider in Lagos was seriously injured on Friday, when a commercial bus collided with his dispatch motorcycle in the Dopemu area of the State.
The collision occurred near Alalade Memorial Hospital, inward Cement, Dopemu.
It involved a Volkswagen commercial bus popularly known as “Danfo”, with licence number KSF 588 XP, and the dispatch motorcycle.
Eyewitnesses’ accounts said the accident was caused by brake failure of the commercial bus which was involved in head-on-collision with the dispatch rider which was seriously injured in the process but was promptly rescued by the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The accident occurred during the day time.
Confirming the accident, Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, in a statement said, “A significant road traffic incident was reported today near Alalade Memorial Hospital, inward Cement, Dopemu. The collision involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (commonly referred to as “Danfo”), bearing the registration number KSF 588 XP, and a dispatch motorcycle.
“Preliminary findings attribute the cause of the accident to a brake system failure in the Volkswagen bus, which resulted in a devastating head-on collision with the dispatch rider.
“The timely intervention of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel was crucial in preventing additional casualties. In the immediate aftermath, LASTMA officers swiftly rescued a male passenger who sustained a severe fracture injury, transporting him to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.
“Security operatives from Afonga Police Station promptly arrived at the scene, providing necessary security cover and maintaining order.
“With a concerted effort, LASTMA officials efficiently cleared the debris from both the Volkswagen bus and the dispatch motorcycle, thereby restoring the smooth flow of traffic in the affected area. The damaged vehicles have since been handed over to the police for further examination and investigation.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his deep concern for the injured passenger, extending his sincere sympathies and wishing him a speedy and complete recovery.”
In a related development, four casualties were recorded in a lone accident, on Friday, at Adeniyi area of Lagos.
LASTMA on its X Handle confirmed this at about 8.32p.m.
According to the Agency, the line accident involved an LT bus which was journeying inward Sura as at the time of the accident.
A video of the accident captured the scene with some bus passengers struggling for help as some LASTMA personnel were doing the needful.
“A lone accident of an LT bus somersaulted at Adeniji inw Sura due to over speeding with four Casualties involved.
“Traffic has backlogged backward and beyond Adekunle for now.
“Effort is on for evacuation while officers are on ground doing the needful.”
