LASTMA rescues driver from collision 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS – Some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), on Wednesday, rescued a bus driver from a near collision in the Apapa area of the State.

This occurred barely 24 hours after some trending videos were shared online about a commercial driver who splashed petrol on both his bus and a LASTMA personnel and set them ablaze.

Wednesday’s incident involved the driver of a private white bus with number plate, RBC 945 TT who suffered a critical brake failure while traveling at high speed.

The accident led to a violent collision with the central road median near Area B, at the intersection with Point Road, Apapa.

However, the driver was successfully rescued by LASTMA personnel.

LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofik, confirmed the accident in a statement available to Citizens Compass.

He said, “Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Officers once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to public safety in an extraordinary rescue effort.

“A private white bus, registration RBC 945 TT, suffered a critical brake failure while traveling at high speed, leading to a violent collision with the central road median near Area B, at the intersection with Point Road, Apapa.

“LASTMA personnel stationed nearby acted with exceptional speed and efficiency, reaching the accident site immediately to render aid.

“The Officers bravely rescued the injured driver from the wreckage, providing preliminary assistance and stabilising him until further help arrived. The quick-thinking response not only saved the driver’s life but also prevented further disruption on the busy Apapa route.

“After successfully extricating the driver, LASTMA Officers transferred him into the care of the Area B Police Officers, who promptly conveyed him to the Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

“The incident underscores LASTMA’s dedication to maintaining public safety and handling emergency situations with professionalism and care.”
