Igbogbo/Baiyeku holds stakeholders’ forum on 2025 budget

CITIZENS COMPASS – Ahead of the presentation of Year 2025 budget, the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, on Thursday, held a Budget Stakeholders’ Forum.
The event which was held at the IBLCDA secretariat played host to stakeholders like Community Development Committees (CDC), traditional leaders, chieftains of the All progressives Congress (APC), legislative arm, educationists, artisans, religious leaders, transporters, youths, market men and women among others.
The council chairman, Olusesan Mayokun Daini popularly known as Builder Daini appreciated all and sundry for believing in his administration.
He said the gathering aimed to look at the Year 2025 budget just as he highlighted some projects that have received the attention of the Council in the Year 2024 budget.
He said the Year 2024 budget was able to accommodate construction of a Legislative and Administrative building for the Council. Others were road construction and rehabilitation, provision of additional classrooms and restrooms for public schools, facelift of health centers and formation of the Joint Task Force (JTF) among others.
Daini said the 2024 budget had successfully tackled insecurity, provided infrastructure and was not found wanting in the area of academics.
He urged stakeholders to look into the areas of needs across various communities and presented such for deliberation.
Some of the participants presented various developmental projects for consideration by the legislaturs.
First on the list was the CDC Chairman, Alhaji Razak Ibiyeye on behalf of the entire residents drew Daini’s attention to the deplorable state of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Road and as well captured residents’ plights in their bid to access the road.
Among other things requested by the CDC Chairman were rehabilitation of the health center in Baiyeku, completion of payment for the landed property habouring a police post in Baiyeku, and provision of adequate security in public schools.
Speaking on behalf of the headteachers in IBLCDA, Mrs Adebanjo Tokunbo Bolanle, requested additional classrooms and restrooms in some public schools within the area.
The Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in IBLCDA, Comrade Ridwan Ogunsowo, requested for vocational trainings that would project the youths for employment opportunities while Madam Taiwo Comfort, the Assist Gen, Secretary, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Marketers, lauded the efforts of the Council Chairman for transforming the markets within the council.
On behalf of Igbgbo/Baiyeku artisans, Mr Ayuba Olayinka Ogunsowo, said the Council should consider the artisans should there be need to hire their services,
A representative of Igbogbo Youths Coalision, Dr Leke Dankuwo, requested for bursary awards for the indigent students within the LCDA while on behalf of the transporters, Mr Nosiru Eyikogbe requested for lighting of Igbogbo/Baiyeku motor park, rehabilitation of adjourning streets to the park and erection of sign posts at various bus-stops.
Representing the physically challenged within the LCDA, Mr Kudus Kasali, requested the Council to support them in furthering their education.
The chairman of Ward C1, Prince Kunle Soberu, requested for the rehabilitation of Lajo and Olu-Odo roads while Alhaji Daisi Omotayo of Ward C2 called for compensation of some victims whose buildings were demolished,
Similarly, Prince Adeleye Kayode of Ward C3 applauded the Chairman for facilitating the construction of a primary school within Ilado, Mr Shehu Hassan of Ward C4 requested for the rehabilitation of Ilemere and Osorun roads and Saheed Ogunnowo of Ward C5 requested for the completion of the abandoned Igbe-Afa road and rehabilitation of Oba Ijaolu street in Elepe area.
Representing the Olubese of Ibeshe Land, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Odofin of Ibeshe, Chief Alade Joshua drew the council’s attention to Olubese road which requires rehabilitation. He thanked the Council for the ongoing rehabilitation of Abuja Road while expecting that Oke-Ota road be completed in earnest.
The Balogun of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Jelili Oduntan on behalf of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, requested for rehabilitaion of the Oba’s palace and relocation of a transformer from Club 24.
The Student Union Leader, Abdusallam Adebayo Tijani requested for Information Communication Technology (ICT) in schools for effective Computer Based Tests (CBT). He sought the support of the council for the upcoming 70 years anniversary of the student union in 2025.
Responding, Daini said some of the requests that require immediate response would be treated so, some would be for deliberation on the floor of the Assembly and others to be penciled down and be included in the handing over notes to his successor.
He said the 2nd phase of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Road has been delayed awarded to a contractor and all expenses paid as the construction work is expected to kick off soon.
As for the police post in Baiyeku, Daini raised a three-man committee comprises of the Assembly Leader, Nurudeen Alimi, Secretary to the Local Government, Barr Ade Ayeni and the Council Manager, Omokayode Lateef Badmus.
He said the ongoing construction of a primary school in Ilado would be completed in December with modern toilet facilities in place while academic activities are expected to resume in January 2025.
On security in schools, Daini said this is currently receiving attention. Apart from this, he said the council was considering provision of JTF posts at some strategic locations to enable quick response by the personnel in terms of emergencies.
Responding to the requests of the youth representatives, he said the council would consider the construction of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and e-library to serve the entire community.
He said the council would initiate a career programme by bringing together all fresh graduates and corps members within the LCDA for a career talk that could prepare them for the labour market.
Daini also said the council was considering to establish a vocational training institute, provision of a bus for traders, erection of sign posts at bus-stops, return of the Nigeria Inter Religious Council (NIREC).
Also, he said said rehabilitation of Olu-Odo road was in the pipeline.
While noting that the park would be light up, he said that the Market Street that had been renamed after him would be given adequate attention warning that roadside trading would not be tolerated within the LCDA He said, ”We will facilitate compensation for the victims of demolition, Demeke Road in Igbogbo will be completed with street lights and rehabilitation of Osorun-Ilemere road would be looked into.
‘I make bold to say that of all the local governments and council development areas in Lagos State, Igbogbo/Baiyeku is the only one to acquire a grader, so, expect more palliatives on our roads.’We are pushing for the completion of Igbe-Afa road and have sent letters to Mr Governor, We will push for the construction of Morekete road as this will ease congestion on the Igbogbo/Baiyeku road. There will be JTF posts to compliment the efforts of regular security.
”Before handing over in July 2025, rehabilitation of the Igbogbo palace would have been done, we would have relocated the Customary Court to the Old Legislative Chamber and there will be JTFi n public schools across the LCDA.”
