Ambulance driver trapped to death
CITIZEN COMPASS– The driver of an ambulance vehicle has died in an early morning auto crash around TREM inward Gbagada, along the Oshodi-Gbagada Expressway, Lagos State.
The deceased was sid to be on top speed with the ambulance vehicle with a number plate, JBD-405HA and an articulated truck whose number plate is unknown.
Details of the autocrash was contained in an update by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Sunday.
According to Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, General Manager of the agency, “Following distress calls via its Toll Free Emergency numbers at 0147hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated it’s Response Team from Cappa Base, Oshodi.
“Upon arrival of the Eagle response team at the incident scene by 0202hrs, LRT discovered an accident involving an ambulance vehicle, registration number JBD-405HA and an articulated truck, registration number unknown.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the articulated truck was hit on the side while on motion, which led to loss of control by the truck driver and his swerve into another lane.
_The sudden lane change however, reportedly resulted in a road crash when the approaching ambulance rammed under the truck on top speed, resulting in the death of the ambulance driver.
“Unfortunately, the ambulance driver got trapped inside the car on impact, and lost his life to the incident.
“Response efforts was coordinated by LASEMA in collaboration with other responders.
– Necessary Safety Measures for protection of responders at the incident scene during the operation was activated.
– Traffic Management and Control Measures were activated.
* LASEMA heavy, and light duty equipment – Super Metro and Lite Tow Trucks were activated to evacuate the impediments in order to avert all probable secondary incidents and ensure public safety.
“The Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Team commenced a medical examination of the Ambulance driver at the incident scene immediately it was cordoned-off and secured.”
In attendance were; LASEMA Response Team.
– LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
– Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
– Nigeria Police Force officials from Pedro Police Station. .
– The commodity (dead body) has been extricated from the accident vehicle.
– The extricated commodity was bagged and handed over to the Ambulance Association members for onward transit to the morgue.
– The accident Ambulance vehicle has been towed to Pedro Police Station.
– Safety Measures were activated around the affected articulated truck.
– Safety Cones were placed at appropriate distances behind the accident truck to forestall occurrence of secondary incidents.
– The articulated truck and incident scene were handed over to officials of the Nigerian Police Force.
As at Sunday Noon, he said, “Recovery operation concluded.”
