Newlywed groom stabs bride to death in Ikorodu

CITIZENS COMPASS– A recent wedding in the Ikorodu area of Lagos ended abruptly on Friday when the groom allegedly stabbed his newlywed wife to death in the Ikorodu area of the State.

The tragic incident occurred at Amazing Grace Estate in Elepe.

The 30-year-old Motunrayo Olaniyi was said to have stabbed his wife, Olajumoke, to death during a heated argument which later degenerated into an altercation.

He has since been arrested by the Police.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday said Motunrayo stabbed the 25-year-old wife multiple times, locked her in the room, and set it ablaze.

The spokesperson said before setting the room ablaze, the suspect inflicted wounds on himself for reasons best known to him.

The statement partly reads, “A distress call was received on October 4, 2024, at Ikorodu Division that a newly wedded couple, one Motunrayo Olaniyi, aged 30, and his wife Olajumoke, aged 25 years, allegedly engaged in a domestic scuffle in their room at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu.

“In the process, the husband reportedly stabbed the wife to death, locked her in the room, and set it ablaze, while he inflicted wounds on himself.

“Police from the Ikorodu Division responded to a distress call and put out the fire. They found Olajumoke’s lifeless body with abdominal wounds.”

He added that the suspect was rescued to a nearby hospital for treatment before his arrest.
