Car crushes cows to death on highway, five escape death in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS–Two cows were on Sunday, crushed to death following collision with a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Lagos.
The incident that led to the death of the cows occurred at Iyana-Oworo, inward Ogudu.in the morning.
Both cows were said to be among a herd of cattles that was crossing the highway when suddenly they ran into the Acura SUV with licence plate, AAA 818 HV which reportedly crushed both of them to death.
Spokesperson, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofik, confirmed the death of the cows to Citizens Compass in a statement.
He said the accident that led to the cows’ death obstructed free flow of traffic in the area but was well managed by the Authority.
He said, “The accident occurred today (Sunday), at Iyana-Oworo, inward Ogudu, where a herd of cattle was crossing the highway.
“LASTMA officers, after clearing the Acura SUV from the road to facilitate smooth traffic flow, handed it over to the police at Ogudu Police Station for further investigation.”
He confirmed another accident scene where five persons escaped death by whiskers.
“At approximately 10:30 a.m. today, a regrettable accident occurred on the Ifako Bridge, en route to the Ogudu area of Lagos. The incident involved an unpainted commercial Mazda bus (MUS 576 YJ) and a Korope mini-bus (FKJ 618).
“Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of the Mazda bus, distracted by eating while driving, lost concentration and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. This lapse in focus was exacerbated by a sudden brake failure, resulting in the unfortunate collision.
“Officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded swiftly, rescuing five injured individuals—one male and four females—from the Mazda bus. “The victims were promptly attended to, in conjunction with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), and were transported to the Accident and Emergency Centre located near the Toll Gate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the victims and strongly urged all motorists, particularly commercial bus operators, to prioritise road safety and remain vigilant to avoid dangerous driving practices.”
