CITIZENS COMPASS–The national body of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), May suspend its only governor, Prof Charles Soludo.
The intending suspension is occasioned by the internal crisis rocking the party which has produced two factional leaders Sly Ezeokenwa and Edozie Njoku one of which has secured a court injunction against the other.
While Sly was said to have received the backing of the Governor, it’s a different ball game for Edozie who was said to be enjoying the backing of other party members.
Soludo’s intending suspension may occur any moment from now.
It was gathered that with the court order, Sly faction has lost legitimacy with the courts.
Despite this, Soludo was said to have aligned with Sly against the interest of Edozie faction.
Citizens Compass reports that this was despite the affirmation of the court order by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
To favour Soludo, it was learnt that the Anambra State House of Assembly amended the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) Law to vest power on the state chapters of parties to nominate candidates.
With the amendment, the Njoku faction has accused Soludo of frontally working to frustrate the leadership of the party.
The faction also accused the state of using the court orders to impede the legitimacy of the Njoku led National Working Committee (NWC) of APGA.
Shedding light to the issue yesterday, Njoku highlighted the sidelines of another court case instigated by the Soludo inspired Ezeokenwa led leadership at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
According to him, 80 per cent of the APGA hierarchy had agreed on the names of Soludo and others to be suspended for anti-party activities.
He said other names would soon be announced by the party in a bid to sanitise and instil discipline, decorum and orderliness in the party.
“Remember what the Chairman of the APGA BoT said, that we the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party should take action so that we don’t look like toothless bulldogs.”
Meanwhile, ANSIEC has said that it would not use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), for the Local Government elections on Sept. 28.
Mr Anthony Nnalue, Commissioner in charge of Information and Logistics, ANSIEC, made the disclosure at a sensitisation programme organised by the International Peace and Civil Responsibility Centre (IPCRC), on Thursday in Awka.
