Ikorodu LG, LSETF partner to facilitate N30m loan to farmers, traders

CITIZENS COMPASS—Wasiu Adesina, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government (LG) area of Lagos State has promised to partner with Lagos State Employment Trust Fund(LSETF) to rollout N30 million interest free soft loan to farmers and traders.

He made the promise during the flag-off of 1,642 metres 2-side drainage construction at Ita-Elewa to Itunmoja area in Ikorodu on Monday.

The Citizen Compass reports that the project is scheduled to be completed within six months, it will stop after the first phase to allow the Agemo festival for one week and continue after the festival.

He said that the measure would help to enhance food production, businesses and investments as well as expand the scope of trader’s access to soft loans to propel their businesses in Ikorodu community.

“We are going to work with LSETF and banks along with the local government to rollout the money, arrangement is on the pipeline.

“The money will be disbursed to farmers, traders, market men and women to boost their trading.

“The bank will screen the eligible ones while repayment will start after three weeks with low interest which will be paid by the LG, ” he said.

According to him, the soft loans would would be introduced as economic stimulus packages to some enterprising youths and women in the community and Ikorodu at large.

Speaking on the drainage construction, the council boss warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse for free flow of water and advised residents to construct standard toilets adding that erring defaulter would be arrested and pay fine.

Adesina, highlighted some of his administration acheivements in the second quarter and plans for the third quarter to includes; training of 100 women on fashion designing, construction of Solomade road which was about 50 per cent completion.

He added ongoing construction at Sanni Arowolo and Dada street which he said was a very important road that would boost the local economy of the community once completed and others.

“My administration will move to construct the Eleshin street, to show that the community is under Agura ward C in Ikorodu LG.

“We intend to improve the architecture of the ward which is also unique to us,” he said.

The chairman thanked President Bola Bola Tinubu, GCFR for the LG autonomy, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for given them free hand to engage in projects that would better the life of citizens as well as Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi and party leaders for their support.

The Chairman also send gratitude to the two Governor Advisory Committee(GAC) Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Ex Deputy Governor of Lagos state and Olorunfunmi Bashorun, who also the Ex Secretary to the LASG.

Also speaking, Wasiu Akinsanya, Alase of Itunmoja and Mrs Sonubi folake, the Iyalode of Ikorodu who were traditional leader of the community commended the council chairman for bringing dividends of democracy to their domain.

They appealed to youths and members of the community to cooperate with the contractor for seamleas and timely delivery of the project.
