Police arrest Chairman of Maruwa operators over assault on inspector
CITIZENS COMPASS—Lagos State Police Command has apprehended the Ikeja branch Chairman of Tricycle Riders Association, popularly known as Maruwa operators in the State.
Spokesperson for the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on his X Handle over the weekend.
He said the 48 year-old Chairman, Oladimeji Ahmed, was arrested for serious assault on police officers as captured in a viral video.
According to the video monitored by Citizens Compass, some police officers were at a Maruwa park in Ikeja with one of them being assaulted by a tricyclist.
The assault later attracted some other tricyclists who also joined in assaulting the officers.
In the video, some other Policemen at the scene were helpless for fear of further attacks on their persons.
Disclosing the arrest, the Spokesperson posted a photograph of the Chairman with a caption, “Oladimeji Ahmed, aged 48, Ikeja Chairman of Tricycle Riders Association, has been arrested for serious assault on police officer. Ahmed assaulted an Inspector of Police who attempted to impound a motorcycle and arrest the rider for flagrantly obstructing traffic in Ikeja at about 1800hrs on Friday, August 9, 2024.
“Investigation is ongoing.”
