Labour Party lawmaker commissions refuse bins as constituency project
CITIZENS COMPASS –A lawmaker representing Aba Central constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, has commissioned some refuse bins as one of his Constituency projects in the State.
Citizens Compass reports that the project has drawn criticism from various quarters.
It was learned that the ‘’Constituency projects’’, commissioned on Thursday, July 18, 2024, were positioned at Azuka Road in Ogbo Hill area and Ekeoha Market, Ehi Road in Aba.
They were commissioned by top staff of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) who were invited as special guests.
Also, they were commissioned in the presence of some supporters and friends of the lawmaker.
Some On-Air Personalities and social media influencers have critisised the project.
The critics opined that the Commissionimg should not have attracted a crowd.
However, an environmental activist, Chizobendum Elias, said the trophy was for the overall interest of his people.
He said that the health benefits of what the lawmaker did were more important to the Aba population than the sharing of money or food items.
“The attack on the lawmaker is uncalled for. Some of those who in the past described Aba as the dirtiest city are still the people criticising the legislator now for promoting a good environment,” he said.
Before the Commissioning, the lawmakers had personally signed an invite which was sent to people.
A copy of the invite which was spotted by Citizens Compass has the title,
“INVITATION TO THE COMMISSIONING OF REFUSE DISPOSAL BINS (CONSTITUENCY PROJECT) TO MARK NY ONE YEAR IN OFFICE.”
It reads, “I Ucheonye Stephen Akachukw, and the entire people of Aba Central State Constituency most politely invite you to the official commissioning of refuse disposal bins to mark my One year in office.
“Venue, Azuka Road, Ogbo-Hill, Aba North LGA, Ekeoha Market, by Ehi Road, Aba South LGA.
“We will feel highly honoured to have your presence in the epoch-making event.
“We look forward to seeing you.”
