Sanwo-Olu installs traditional ruler in Igbogbo-Baiyeku

CITIZENS COMPASS –Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday, July 18, 2024, installed the Oluyemowo 1 of Elepe Kingdom, Igbogbo- Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State.

Citizens Compass reports that the new traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Ganiyu Adekoyejo Omotayo, was the Baale of Elepe Kingdom for over four decades before his ascension to the throne of his forefathers.

The Governor presented a Staff of Office and an Instrument of Appointment to the new monarch during the ceremony which took place at the Secretariat of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA under the leadership of Olusesan Mayokun Daini popularly known as Builder Daini.

Represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs And Rural Development; Mr Bolaji Kayode Robert, the Governor charged traditional rulers to seek communal peace and development in their communities.

The Commissioner who was accompanied by the Kikelomo Bolarinwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry said the event was historic in the sense that it marks another phase of socio-economic growth, communal peace and development in Elepe Kingdom.

He said, “Today’s event marks another phase of socio-economic growth, communal peace and development in Ewu-Elepe Kingdom; seeing the ease that accompanied the selection process, alongside the wide acceptance that has trailed the announcement of Chief (Prince) Ganiu Adekoyejo Omotayo as Oba of Ewu-Elepe Kingdom.”

The Governor said the selection of the new traditional ruler who hailed from the Ijaolu Ruling House followed due diligence,“The Ruling House have in the process of selection ensured that due diligence was followed in accordance to the Obas and Chiefs Law, Cap 02, Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015, hence Mr Governor; Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s approval for the Installation and Presentation of Staff of Office to Chief (Prince) Ganiu Adekoye Omotayo as His Royal Majesty; Alaiyeluwa Oba Ganiu Adekoye Omotayo; the Oba of Ewu-Elepe Kingdom in Ikorodu Local Government Area.”

He charged the newly installed monarch this, “It is to this end that I want to

remind you, Kabiyesi, that, as a custodian of our culture and tradition, you must ensure that you uphold the dignity of the throne and maintain communal peace and social cohesion in your domain.’

In his address, Daini expressed joy at the Installation saying it symbolises continuation of our cultural heritage. “Today marks a momentous occasion in the history of Elepe Town, in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA. 

“This event symbolises the continuation of our cultural heritage, the affirmation of our traditional values, and the commitment to the progress and unity of our community.”

Daini congratulated the new traditional ruler, “To our new king, Oluyemowo 1 of Elepe Kingdom, your ascension to the throne is not only a recognition of your lineage and right but also an acknowledgement of your integrity, wisdom, and commitment to the service of our people. As you receive the staff of office, may it serve as a symbol of your authority and a reminder of the responsibilities that come with it.”

The Council chairman said  of the Town,”Elepe Town has a rich history, known for its culture, tradition, and resilience. I believe our new king will further preserve the heritage of our land and foster unity among our people, and also lead us towards greater achievements. Your reign marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that we believe will be filled with prosperity, peace, and progress by God’s grace.”

He urged stakeholders to support the monarch, “I urge all sons and daughters of Elepe, and indeed all residents of Ikorodu, to support our new king as he embarks on this noble journey. It is through our collective efforts that we can build a stronger, more vibrant community.”

Responding, the newly installed monarch promised, “to discharge his duties with all humility and abide by all norms, values and ethics of all traditional rites and rules of engagement of the State council of Obas.”

In a chat with Citizens Compass, one of the guests, Pastor Ayoola Osigbade, expressed joy at the Installation.

Present at the occasion were chieftains of All Progressives Party (APC), traditional rulers, leaders and other stakeholders.
