CITIZENS COMPASS –The newly redeployed Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce), CSP Adetayo Akerele, officially resumed in his new office on Monday, July 1, 2024, with a charge to the personnel of the Agency to be proactive in thir duties.

He urged them to shun corruption and sharp practices which could be harmful not just to them but to the society at large.

He said this at the Headquarters of the Agency, the Safety Arena, Bolade Oshodi, where he was received by all and sundry in a rousing welcome ceremony organized by members of staff of the Agency to commemorate his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce.

During his appreciative remarks, Akerele promised to put his best in ensuring staff welfare are adequately prioritized and assured them that his door is always open to each and every one of them who like to seek audience regarding any issue at all.

“My policy is open to everyone from senior to junior staff of the Agency. I am here to serve and I will ensure that I serve with all my strength through the grace of God to ensure that collectively, we will make Lagos State free from Environmental hazards, traffic indiscipline and all forms of illegalities in the State. Lagos State will be safe and habitable for you and I” said the Chairman.

Furthermore, the Chairman addressed Para-Military officers attached to the Agency educating them on the need to carry out their duties with dignity and empathy as members of the public are a bit uneasy due to the economic situation in the country.

“Shun any form of illegality. Going on solo assignments is a suicide mission, if you are caught, you are gone. The society does not tolerate any illegalities, so, resist the urge to engage in any form of it to avoid being found wanting.

During the course of the address, he was also welcomed into office by the Co-ordinator of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile Court), Mrs Arinola Ogbara-Banjoko, who showered encomiums on the new Chairman stating that he is a distinguished and professional law enforcement officer, any time any day.

“I have known CSP Akerele for long while he was the second in command of this Agency and one thing I can say about him is that he is a brilliant and astute gentleman. I have no doubt that he would put his brilliance to fore in this new assignment. The mobile court will provide him with all the necessary support required to discharge his duty as the Chairman of this Agency.”

The Chairman acknowledged the Coordinator of the mobile court describing her as a mother figure who goes out of her way even during late hours to ensure every case presented is heard and justice is adequately served to members of the public.

He promised to work closely with the Mobile Court and remained confident that he would get nothing but the best form of cooperation from the Coordinator of the court and the entire staff.

CSP Akerele promised to carry out more enforcement exercise in areas identified as black spots and locations which have been known to be serial environmental defaulters in the State. He said it is time to grab the bull by the horn and stamp out environmental degradation completely.
