CITIZENS COMPASS –Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and Community Maternal Perinatal Death Surveillance Response (C-MPDSR) on Thursday, June 13, 2024, sensitised Ikorodu residents on perinatal death.
The Citizen Compass reports that 15 sub-committees were set up to begin the sensitisation in Ikorodu.
Speaking, Mr Bolaji Robert, the Lagos state Commissioner for Rural Development, said that the programme would inform targeted interventions aimed at reducing maternal and newborn deaths.
Robert, represented by Mr Amodu Rasaq, a Director in the ministry, urged community health officers to use data obtained as guidance to decisions in the state and local government levels and immediately inaugurated the committees and sub- committees.
“Today, we unveil the community C-MPDSR programme, this is not just a bureaucratic endeavour, it is a lifeline for our communities.
“By tracking and monitoring maternal and newborn deaths, we gain insights into the determinant of health specific to each ward that shape our collective well-being,” he said.
Responding, the council Chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said it was a laudable programme and promise to support the initiative in ensuring that the perinatal is totally eradicated in the LGA and Lagos state.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for choosing Ikorodu as a pilot local government for the establishment of the initiative.
“I promised to support the programme because it was laudable and a life saving initiative that will reduce maternal deaths among mothers, ” he said.
Also speaking, Dr Jemilade Longe, who gave the goodwill message said the sensitisation is essential to reduce perinatal deaths among mother and stakeholder to understand how to embrace the programme.
