Emergency! Truck crush commuters, roadside traders to death at Mile 12 in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS – A yet-to-be ascertained number of commuters, road side traders and hawkers were reportedly crushed to death at Mile 12 area of Lagos State on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
The incident occurred at about 6.45p.m at the service lane, inwards Ikorodu.
An eye witness simply identified as Bello who narrated the incident said about 16 people were crushed to death when the truck suffered brake failure and lost control crushing the victims.
He said emergency responders immediately arrived at the scene for rescue operations.
“I was on my way to the mosque when I noticed the accident. The truck suffered brake failure and rammed into the people.
“The truck was coming from Ketu axis and suffered brake failure on descending the bridge but the driver was trying to manage the situation unfortunately, he lost control and crushed some of those waiting to board buses to Ajegunle, Isawo and Ikorodu.
“Few people were able to escape on noticing the truck but some could not.
“As I speak, there are ambulances at the scene.” He said.
At press time, calls to the cell phone of the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA(, Dr. Oluwakemi Oke-Osanyintolu were left unattended to.
At press time, gridlock has built up in the axis.
