Traditional rulers die on way to burial ceremony
CITIZENS COMPASS —Oyo State has lost three traditional rulers who died on their way to attend the burial ceremony of a relative.
They were the Olodogbo of Odogbo, the Onibowula of Bowula, and the Alayetoro of Ayetoro, all from Oriire local government.
The duo were from Oriire Local Government area in the Ogbomoso geo-political zone but the incident occurred at the Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso on Friday.
The monarchs were on their way to the funeral of a relative of one of their colleagues, the Oloolo of Oolo Oba Oyebunmi Ajayi.
The accident took place when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck, resulting in their immediate deaths.
One other person involved in the accident sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The Oyo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Oyo State, Mr Joshua Adekanye, attributed the cause of the crash to speed violation and wrongful overtaking.
According to Adekanye, two vehicles involved were a white M/Benz E230 car with registration number ‘Olodogbo’ and a white Scania Truck with registration number MUS 301 XF.
He said that six people were involved in the accident; three died and the others were injured.
