CITIZENS COMPASS —Indications have emerged that Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has been the one delaying his son’s burial.
Recall that the singer died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 and was buried the day after.
Mohbad died in Ajah area of Lagos but due to paucity of fund, Joseph buried his son in Gberigbe area 9f Ikorodu, Lagos.
However, Mohbad’s fans and friends took to the streets in protests suspecting foul play in the dearh.
Two months ago, the Nigeria Police exhumed Mohbad’s body for autopsy to be conducted on him which was conducted immediately but the result is yet to be made public.
The Police in the course of investigating the death invited and remanded the CEO of Marlian record label, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley, Mohbad’s friend, Sam Larry, the nurse that applied injection on him before he passed on and two others.
Popular actress, Iyabo Ojo and some of her colleagues have influenced a burial arrangement thinking the body would be released to them.
In the midst of expectations, it was learnt that Joseph was yet to claim his son’s corpse despite being told to come for it.
According to the Police he is still yet to apply for the corpse because he wants to perform a DNA test.
Yesterday, Mohbad’s mother was captured in a viral video saying that the body of the singer has been released to the father but he has refused for it to be reburied.
She said the police, having concluded the autopsy on the singer, informed the father that he can come forward to collect his body but the man is yet to apply for it.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said;
‘’The body is in the morgue. It has not been released. It wouldn’t be released to you and you wouldn’t come and pick it. The hospital wouldn’t allow it. Only the father can apply for the release of the corpse, only the father and the police has said any day he applies, he would get it immediately. We have told them, anytime they want it, just write an application but the father has refused to do that.
Technically, it is the father that is holding back. The father has said he is not taking it yet until they do DNA and that is their personal family problem. If the man writes today, of course it will be released and he must carry the corpse. You can’t write and keep it there. For who?”
Mr Aloba has repeatedly insisted that a DNA test must be done to ascertain the true paternity of Liam, the seven months old son of late Mohbad and his wife, Wunmi.
