… INEC officer surrenders
CITIZENS COMPASS —Suspected gunmen in Imo State, on weekend, reportedly snatched the sum of N1.5 million from some vote buyers during the Gubernatorial election in the State.
The gunmen were said to be about 12 in number when they arrived at All Saints Anglican Cathedral to scare people with gunshots before carting away the money.
It was learnt that the vote buyers were operating freely not minding warnings from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to check the menace of vote buying in the State.
The suspects were said to have operated at the four polling stations that were located within the cathedral after sporadically shooting into the air to scare away any resistance.
It was gathered that the policemen on duty took to their heels while the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who were supervising the election laid down in surrender.
An eye witness disclosed that the gunmen after shooting their way to scare away resistance then grabbed the money from the three men who were distributing the cash.
The political party or parties involved in the vote buying were yet to be identified.
