CITIZENS COMPASS – SOME youths in Ikorodu Division in Lagos State have volunteered themselves to guard the graveyard of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, to avoid any foul play as regards investigation into rhe cause of his death.
A viral video on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, captured some of the youths rendering the voluntary service.
Citizens Compass learnt that the youths
comprise residents and vigilante groups in Gberigbe area of Ikorodu where the late singer was interred.
In the video, a female voice was heard saying that the voluntary service was necessarily to avoid a situation where the body of the late singer will be exhumed by unauthorised persons.
As a way of seeking justice, protesters on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, hit some parts of Lagos and Ogun States as Hundreds of concerned citizens stormed the streets to lend their voice to the ongoing brouhaha about the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad.
The protesters who bore various placards and were clad in Black dresses were sighted in Ikorodu, Lagos and Panseke in Abeokuta, Ogun State in procession calling on appropriate authorities to ensure justice is done.
The protest, which took place at day time , saw the protesters , mostly youths, demanding for justice for the late artist.
The protest was supervised by members of the anti-riot police squad, who were on ground to ensure the protest was not hijacked.
The video of the protest is already trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, with over 56K reposts.
The video has already generated so many tweets with comments such as “This is wonderful; justice must prevail,”
Another tweet from Nigeria Stories with the video captured in its post said, “Justice for Mohbad protest going on in Abeokuta (with a broken heart emoji). Mohbad is loved.”
The protests also spread to Ondo State as protesters took over streets in Akure bearing placards with inscriptions such as “Say No to Marlian Music”, “Justice for Mohbad” and “We want a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad death”, amongst others.
Amidst tight security, the protesters marched through NEPA, Arakale and Oba Adesida roads.
The protest caused heavy traffic across major routes in the town.
In Ekiti State, protesters took to the streets of Ado Ekiti, the state capital for a candle procession in honor of Mohbad.
Citizens Compass reports that vehicular activities were paralysed for hours while the protests lasted.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command, has revealed that it will exhume the body of Mohbad to reveal the true circumstances behind the death of the musician.
Addressing journalists in the presence of the father, mother, and other family members, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, said that the police have inaugurated a team charged with collecting necessary information and evidence on the case, deploying forensic technology to gather facts surrounding his unfortunate murder.
“We have resolved to constitute a special investigation team that will undertake the investigation,” Owohunwa said. “And this is based on the fact that through our preliminary review of all facts, insinuations, and allegations both within social media and in the course of our interaction with some strategic elements linked to the incidence, we felt there were very good grounds to open up a case of homicide.”
The team is expected to engage in the exhumation and autopsy of the deceased, which would help its investigation.
Owohunwa added, “We have seen a lot on social media—videos, allegations—and now we are getting into the practicals.”
He called on all Nigerians with valuable information that can help the police investigation to come to the police so that they can truly give justice to the slain artist.
“We need any well-meaning citizen that is truly committed to ensuring justice for Morbad to now come over to the police and the investigation team and volunteer this piece of vital information in support of a detailed investigation.
“The team will engage in the exhumation, autopsy, visit to the crime scene, hospitals, and past records that might be vital towards establishing the facts,” the commissioner added.
He promised full protection for the family of the deceased.
Similarly, the management of Mohbad has scheduled a candle light for the singer against Thursday, September 21, 2023.
The Management appreciated Nigerians for solidarity.
A delegation from Lagos State led by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, alongside the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Commissioner for Youth, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, Special Adviser on Tourism, Mr Idris Aregbe has paid a condolence visit to the mother of the late singer.
The delegation assured the family that justice will be done on this matter and that the DSS will join the police for a thorough investigation.
