CITIZENS COMPASS – THE Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN), Ogun State branch, has adviced newly registered members of the association to uphold ethical standards, digital transformation and adhere to usage of scale of fees in line with best practices, so as to ensure continuous sanity in the profession
Speaking at an annual seminar organised for newly registered surveyors, the APPSN CHAIRMAN, Ogun State chapter, Surv. Kayode Samuel Adekoya pointed out that the seminar was to ensure that the new members started their practice on a good note by adhering to ethical standards of the profession
According to him, being able to practice independently was a dream come true and privilege for them to contribute their quota to the development of the profession.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surv. Adebowale Ademola enjoined new members to avoid unethical practices and undercutting of Survey services which could mar the profession.
Adebowale emphasized the need to think beyond personal interests and consider collective benefits of the profession in their daily survey transactions as sacrificing ethics for short-term material gains would negatively impact on the profession.
In his keynote address, the Ogun State Surveyor General (SG), Surv. Oladele Ewulo expressed concern over the declining rate of job opportunities for surveyors and cautioned members against engaging in unethical practices that could tarnish their reputation and that of the profession.
Ewulo stated the consequences of unethical practice to include facing disciplinary action and losing both their practice and integrity.
Papers presented during the seminar include Insights and Guidance to the members by Surv. Shakiru Adeola Bello which highlighted the unique nature of surveying and geoinformatics practice in Ogun State, emphasizing the ongoing digital transformation in the profession.
Also, the importance of ethics in the surveying profession was emphasized by Surv. Abiodun Olufemi Liadi and costing of survey jobs and the prevention of undercutting was handled by Surv. Babatunde Ogunlami.
