Lagos opens Chrisland school for exams
CITIZENS COMPASS– LAGOS State Government has approved a temporary re-opening of Chrisland school, Opebi, Ikeja for the final year students of the school to write their year examination which is coming soon.
Lagos State Ministry of Education through its Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo gave the approval while giving an update over the case of Whitney Adeniran, a student of the school who died in February during an Inter House Sports organised by the school at Agege Stadium.
According to the her, “The school will remain closed until all necessary judicial processes superintended over by the State’s Ministry of Justice and other ongoing administrative inquests within the purview of the Office of Education Quality Assurance and other agencies are completed”.
She also hinted that arrangements are ongoing for other categories of students to return to school.
The temporary permission to allow the terminal classes comprising JSS3 and SS3 students access to the school was granted to enable them to participate in their terminal examinations “.
A statement by Ganiu Lawal, Assistant. Director, said the ministry, with support of the Lagos State Joint Task Force in charge of the implementation of the child protection policy and safeguarding, which is made up of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, such as the Ministry of Youth andy Social Development, Office of Education Quality Assurance and others, will continue to engage with Whitney Adeniran’s Family.
Whitney’s death had generated controversy between the school and her parents as the school claimed that the 12 years old student developed complications at during the sporting event on Thursday, February 9, 2023, and was immediately rushed to the hospital but the parents disagreed with this saying they suspected a fowl play in the death.
Whitney ‘s mother said she was present at the Inter House Sports and her daughter was hearty and healthy before leaving home for school on that day.
Following the controversy, Lagos State Government immediately ordered the closure of the school and an autopsy examination to ascertain the cause of the death and the result turned out that she died of electrocution.
