CITIZENS COMPASS– GOODS worth Millions of Naira were destroyed in a midnight inferno that gutted the popular Araromi spare parts market in Ibadan, Oyo State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 2am on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Eye witnesses’ account said the inferno was caused by burning of refuse.
One of the spare parts sellers, Olajide Ige, said as at the time he was speaking.
However, another trader, Idris Audu said about 45 shops were razed.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service, Rev. Canon Yemi Akinyinka said men of the command were able to quench the fire at about 5 a.m. on Saturday.
He said, “Our men are at Araromi Market Agodi Gate since 2:30 a.m. where they are putting of the fire caused by indiscriminate refuse burning.
“The fire was suppressed at 5:00 a.m. Cooling down operation is ongoing to suppress reignition. On my way for on the spot assessment.
