600 gets free eye care treatment in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS– No fewer than 600 people have benefitted from free eye care treatment organised by the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State in conjunction with Darren Vision Eye Care.

The event also inaugurated the Eye treatment centre, Ita-Elewa Primary Health Care centre, in Ikorodu

Speaking at the event, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, the council Chairman, said the initiative was made possible through strategic partnership between the local government and Darren Vision eye care.

Adesina, said that his administration remains steadfast in ensuring that medical services reach every nook and cranny of the community.

“Health is not a privilege; it is a fundamental right, as a government that prioritises the welfare of its people.

“Good vision is invaluable, yet many among us silently battle eye conditions that could be easily managed with early detection,” he said.

Adesina assured residents that his administration remains resolute in its commitment to strengthening public health interventions in all PHC centres and urged them to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Our Agura health centre will soon be wearing a new look with modern day facilities and 24 hours service,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Vivian Ikechikwu, Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Darren vision eye care, advised residents on regular eye l checkups for early detection as an effective tool in preventing complications like cataracts and glaucoma.

Ikechikwu, express gratitude to the council chiarman and urged the Federal Government to partner with pharmaceutical companies on drugs production and subsidy on health care for citizens in the country.

“I express gratitude to the council chairman for given us the opportunity to build an eye treatment centre for the benefit of the people.

“This idea was born out of my passion foredicine and supporting people,” she said.

Also speaking, Dr Vivian Odeika, the lead eye consultant emphasised the need and importance of regular eye test to correct and prevent major eye defects.

In her remarks, Princess Busola, Isikalu, the Iyaloja General of Ikorodu Division, said the eye treatment centre would reduce cost and stress of going far away to seek eye treatments with a promise to sensitise market women to make use of the centre.

Also, Princes Folashade Olabanji-Oba- Vice chairman of Ikorodu LG said it was aloudable project adding that a good job of any government was to improve the quality of lives.

“The job of government is to improve the quality of lives and such is the intervention of the council in establishing an eye treatment centre,” she said

Beneficiaries commended the local government initiative on the eye treatment centre and promised to sensitise others who have not heard about it to patronise it for early detection.
