CITIZENS COMPASS– The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, is set to redefine the maritime economy with the Lagos Seafood Festival, an initiative designed to celebrate and promote the state’s aquatic splendor.
Through this event, the government aimed to showcase Lagos’ maritime tourism and the commercial potential of its seafood industry to investors within and outside the country.
The festival, themed “Buy, Eat, Party,” will be held from April 24th to 26th, 2025, across three locations in the state: Lagoon Restaurant, Victoria Island; Anuoluwapo Fish Market, Law School, Victoria Island; and Oluwo Fish Market, Epe.
With a focus on promoting aquaculture and culinary tourism, the festival aims to preserve Lagos’ rich seafood trade, drive sustainable business strategies, and reinforce the state’s position as a leading maritime hub in West Africa.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, described the initiative as a groundbreaking approach to celebrating the indigenous lifestyle of Lagos while empowering seafood businesses and boosting the economy.
“This is beyond a festivity. It is a celebration of our heritage and strategic opportunities for the seafood industry in Lagos. We will empower seafood merchants, attract international buyers, and amplify Lagos’ maritime story.
“During the festival, there will be gourmet seafood experience showcasing Lagos’ finest seafood cuisines, cooking demonstrations and tastings by renowned chefs, market tours, cultural exhibitions, workshops, and business networking opportunities. This initiative is not just a win for seafood business owners, but a boost to the maritime economy”, Aregbe stated.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda in positioning Lagos as a global tourism and business hub while fostering economic growth in the seafood sector.
The Lagos Seafood Festival is a strategic campaign to promote and reecho Lagos as an aquatic splendour, market the seafood industry, and support sustainable businesses.
