17 escape death as Ikorodu boat capsizes
CITIZENS COMPASS– AT least, a total number of 17 ferry passengers escaped death by whiskers when an Ikorodu-Ebete- Ero bound ferry capsized near Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The incident occurred at about 7am on Monday, February 20, 2023.
According to eye witnesses’ accounts, the boat belonging to Fazma logistics took off at about 6.45am heading for Ebute-Ero unfortunately it capsized before arriving its destination.
The passengers were said to be jittery on noticing the incident but luck smiled on them as they were all rescued by first responders.
Lagos State Waterways Management Authority (LASWA) confirmed this to journalists on Monday.
A statement signed on behalf of LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel said, “At about 7 am on Monday 20th of February 2023, a commercial passenger ferry named Fazma logistics, loaded with 17 passengers, left Ikorodu ferry terminal at exactly 6:45 am en route Ebute Ero unfortunately it capsized around Third mainland bridge close to Bariga ferry terminal.
All the passengers were rescued alive by first responders including officers of the Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA.
“Boat recovery operations commenced immediately while the boat captain is been interrogated and investigation is on going.”
