15 injured in truck, BRT accident 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –15 persons were injured on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Lagos State, when a truck collided with a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), at Ketu area of the State.

The incident which occurred inward Ojota in the morning affected the truck, BRT and Yellow bus.

The truck was said to have collided with the BRT which inturn skidded off its corridor and hit the Yellow bus at the opposite direction leaving 15 persons to sustain minor injuries but all were attended to by emergency responders.

The accident did not record any fatality.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), was said to have responded to the emergency via distress calls.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident to journalists.

In his updates, he said, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), received distress calls via the State’s Toll Free Emergency numbers 767/112 regarding a multiple road traffic accident at the above mentioned address. 

“The Agency’s LRT from the Command and Control Centre, C3, Alausa arrived at the scene of the multiple collision which involved three vehicles under the Ojota inter – change bridge, at 1140hours.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a BRT bus, registration number EXY-167XY, an articulated truck, registration number unknown, laden with a 40ft container and an 18-seater commercial bus, registration number JJJ-439YG were involved in an accident at the afore-mentioned location.

“Investigations by the Agency’s LRT, revealed that the articulated truck, while heading inward Ketu, suddenly lost control on motion, skidded off it’s lane, and collided with a BRT bus headed inward Ojota from the opposite direction, the BRT subsequently skidded off it’s lane into the service lane and collided with the yellow commercial bus.

Damage Assessment:

The BRT bus suffered significant damage to the front and rear ends.

The tractor head of the truck was also damaged.

Injuries and Fatalities:

15 people were injured.

No critical injuries were sustained. No fatalities were recorded.

Action Taken:

The injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while four of the victims were attended to by the Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Team alongside LASAMBUS at the incident scene.

Road Traffic Control:

The Agency’s LRT, in collaboration with LASTMA officials at the incident scene, activated road traffic control and were able to divert vehicles into the BRT lane to safely evacuate the vehicles off the road.

Operation Status:

After implementing all necessary safety precautions to forestall secondary incidents, the articulated truck was recovered off the road with the aid of MOT heavyduty equipment and towed to LASTMA yard at Oshodi, the BRT bus was recovered off the road with the aid of LBSL tow truck to the BRT yard at Ojota, while the yellow commercial bus was driven off by its owner.

Status:

Road has been set free for vehicular activities.
